investor,

TRIN also known as arms index was first used by the US ARMY during wars to guess the number of enemy planes that could strike a region...the same indication works like magic in stockmarkets too.

Remember TRIN is not for individual stocks, its for an index... take NIFTY as an index...there are 50 stocks so TRIN on any given day is

Advancing stocks divided by declining stocks DIVIDED BY Advancing Volumes divided by declining volumes...

TRIN mostly ranges between 0.1 to 1.9 max.. but i have seen DAILY TRINS of 25 also lol lol

When its 0.1 its overbought and is overbought until 0.7

At 0.7 its considered neutral

At greater than 0.7 its oversold with 1 being terribly oversold.

If we rallied and TRIN is at 1, it means the rally was used for selling and its a bearish divergence.... but it also could mean a lot of shorts so next day if for any reason we rally then shorters would cover immediately.. but mostly when the TRIN is oversold during a rally it means the sentiment is bearish and markets more likely to fall next day..... so its a double edged sword but a great indicator...

is that so, dow and nasdaq recovering.. when i saw dow futures trading 100 points down i thought the rally will take time but will happen coz the TRIN was oversold at 0.2 ystday after the huge fall and its very bullish divergence.. for dow it all takes effect immediately unlike our nifty where it took 3 days to play out and may not have played out if dow had not fallen..

Lets hoep for a rally as i have two calls.

RN,

In the good olden days the shares were available at a cheap price and and all IPOs were offered at FV.So one could earn thro' dividends. But not after 2003.Due to book building process, when the 10 FV shares are offered at 300+ where is the question of dividend yield etc?So forget about DY in Bull market

My family lived in T'Nagar (Chennai) for many years and we had three good neighbours. There was an offer for a 5 grounds plot in that area and the price quoted was Rs 15K/ground.

My father declined the offer.

Neighbour A bought one ground at 15K and sold it after a few years for 20K

Neighbour B bought 2 grounds and sold one after many years for 100K and still owns one ground.

Neighbour C bought 2 grounds and still owns them.

The current going rate for those plots is Rs 2cr/ground!

Now tthe question for you..Of the above 4 who would be very happy and who would be very sad?Obviously you would say that neighbour C should be happy and my father should be sad.But in reality

My father is sad for obvious reasons

Neighbour A is sad for selling the plot too soon

Neighbour B is sad for selling the second plot

Neighbour C is sad for not buying the other three plots

RN, what we get or lose is purely due to OUR DESTINY and we should not dwell in the past. The distance between Teachers day and today is 364(days) and not one

PS: Kindly take the above story in the spirit it was intended and do not bombard me with questions like what was your father?what was his last drawn salary? Is he getting any pension now?Do you own any other house or plot in Chennai?Have you ever quarreled with your dad for not buying? etc etc

Thank you..and congratulations to you because India clinched NSG waiver and you have two calls with you very good, and I have Two sold puts worth 600 * 50 with me, so it will be a good for us on monday, I expect atleast 160 to 180 point jump,

we might be touching 4600 briefly for some time...and then we can close at 4550...

But the sad part is I have sold my Three calls with little loss, If I would have that it would have been a great day for me.

people Invest in stocks with the beleive That it will give more than 25 % in year, combined with 2 % or 3 % dividend, people who were holding from the old rates would have enjoyed the bonus and splits and would be sitting on huge profits, so They don't have totake it out.

I remember one Guy claiming in the forum around 8 years back he took Hindalco 1000 shares at 70 rs or 80 rs, Now he has close to 28000 shares and 8000 shares in dispute in comany ( through bonus , rights and splits ), so he would never sell this even hindalco goes to 90 rs again.

I'm a working with one IT organization and i'm not a full time trader, I don't use any broker, I deal directly with ICICIdirect.

What kindof Editing jobs you do?

Very informative post Vam,

very informative, five stars...... but why are folks holding to stocks for dividend when they can sell the same invest in banks for bigger returns via interest.??. would u know??... i have to understnad the psychology of investors and full time employees...why the first sect wants to invest and the second sect wants to work??

With 15k, we traders if we trade smart can make 1k per day... thats 30K per month, if we slog after 30 years i believe a bank manager earns 36K... so what to make of all this?

BTW ur full time trader or ur also employed or ur in business? Which trading platform u use.

I am a full time trader, i have a personal broker and sometimes use ICICIDIRECT, and i do some freelance editing jobs, what about you?

Dividend in lakhs every year?? Amazing.. they invested crores definitely back then else how can one earn dividend in lakhs.... i find it difficult to believe that everyone had millions of rupees back then coz my dad earned only Rs 100 per month if i remember right when i was born... after that of course he got into business.. but until my fifth grade the max he ever earned was Rs 500 i think.

Considering if you invest now in infy ( 50 lakhs )today at the current rate you can get around 2900 shares. they are giving the dividend ( 545 % of 5 rs face value share , so becomes 27.5 rs ) this dividend calculation is for last year. so imagine next year if you can get 30 rs per share also you would be getting around 87 K per year.

But Invest the same in Bank now, at 9 % interest you can get 4.5 Lacs every year.

If you are a long term investor holding infy at 300 rs or less, Then your yearly returns are likely above 10 %, But if you putting 50 L now in INFY alone does not make sense.

Company is doing well. But its valuation is a little on higher side, looking to the present market condition. Hence, hovering around 60/- level, you can hold it for LT and you are likely to get yr price....

Anyone thrown light on GSPL. It was recommended from all around and had passed 110 once. It has a good business but is hovering around 50-60 since long. Even Money Control has put it in NT category and is not updating its price. What r its future prospects? I bought it at Rs. 88. Should I hold or sell? I have 1500 shares.

My investors hv minted money through my advice during 1990-1994 boom and have earned lacs and lacs at that time and most of them now earn dividend in lacs every year and live only on investment income. I need not tell you about myself.

When i married my hubby in early 1980s, he was earning 5K per month and it was considered a very very handsome salary but still from his investments i dont think i would have earned lakhs of dividends even if i had not sold... okay his investmetns at best would have been worth 50L today where he invested say 5L but would a 50L in infy (assume he has infy alone worth 50L today) would it give a divdend in lakhs every year.. anyone?
