No doubt that ntpc is a very good stock and a hold. Even without nuclear deal, it is attractive as it is a power stock. We are hungry for power and is in deficit at all these years. It will take years for the nuclear power plants to appear due to political pressure. Since it is a psu unit, even the communists may support if it is to be developed further (not bcoz they want development but becoz a psu can increase their union activities for political reasons). And this is one psu which can meet the requirements in short terms.
The tgt of 400 is achievable in near future, when the conditions become stable.

Technical Analyst, Ashwani Gujral is of the view that NTPC can touch Rs 200. It been moving in a narrow range between Rs 160-170. If one want to be in power and participate in nuke deal kind of issues then probably it is the right way to go....

NTPC galloped 7.15% to Rs 185.85 at 10:14 IST on BSE, after the company signed a memorandum of understanding with Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation to formulate a long term strategy for renewable energy projects.
The company made this announcement after trading hours on Friday, 5 September 2008.
Meanwhile, the BSE Sensex was up 522.08 points, or 3.60%, to 15,005.91. The market got a boost from the Nuclear Suppliers Group on Saturday, 6 September 2008, lifting a 34-year-old embargo on nuclear trade with India.
On BSE 11.16 lakh shares were traded in the counter. The stock had an average daily volume of 18.23 lakh shares in the past one quarter.
The stock hit a high of Rs 194 and a low of Rs 180 so far during the day. The stock has a 52-week high of Rs 291 on 15 January 2008 and a 52-week low of Rs 148.75 on 27 June 2008.
The large-cap stock had underperformed the market over the past one month till 5 September 2008, declining 4.80% as compared to the Sensex’s decline of 3.19%. It had outperformed the market in the past one quarter, declining 4.08% as compared to the Sensex’s decline of 8.15%.
The company’s current equity is Rs 8245.46. Face value per share is Rs 10.
The current price of Rs 185.85 discounts Q1 June 2008 annualized EPS of Rs 8.38, by a PE multiple of 22.18.
In August 2008, NTPC signed a memorandum of understanding with NHPC, Power Finance Corporation and Tata Consultancy Services for incorporation of a joint venture company to set-up and operates a power exchange at national level.
On 2 July 2008 the company and Power Finance Corporation (PFC) entered into a memorandum of agreement for financing NTPC’s ongoing capacity addition programme across the country.
In June 2008, NTPC signed a loan agreement of Rs 10000 crore with PFC to finance the expenditure of the company.
NTPC\'s net profit declined 27.1% to Rs 1,726.53 crore on 6.5% increase in net sales to Rs 9,539.47 crore in Q1 June 2008 over Q1 June 2007.

Rs 400 in 10 yrs or what? If you post a target give details and rough calculations as well. Out of blue targets have no meaning. The script will definetly gain in long run but 400 ?????...
